| Surrounded by Expo Committee members, VP of expositions Patty Voss cuts the ribbon to open the exhibit floor of the 2007 NSCA Expo. Inset: Proving an ITS Enclosures (Booth 347) display product is fully impervious to the elements, a waterfall has been installed in the Digital Signage Showcase. Thomas J. O'Gara, director of procurement and logistics (left), and David Goldenberg, president, both of ACE Communications, test the waters. |
The floor of the NSCA Expo was filled with industry movers and shakers yesterday, all going from booth to booth to discover new solutions and make connections with other industry professionals. They also packed education offerings and the slew of demo rooms.
In between all the opportunities to see gear and learn about new technologies, attendees are also networking — the old-fashioned kind that involves trading business cards and shaking hands. “The after-hours events are big,” says Chuck Wilson, executive director of NSCA. “The networking opportunities are a big part of why people need to come to the Expo and be a part of it. It’s your chance to keep up with all the contacts you need in the industry. Another reason people come to the show these days is for the demo rooms — this year, we have 14 of them between levels 2 and 3, including a few new ones like Danley Sound Labs.” (Danley is in Demo Room W307A.)
While folks are enjoying the Florida climes, next February 21-23 sees the NSCA Expo heading to Dallas, taking a break from its usual Las Vegas/Orlando commute while the Las Vegas Convention Center gets a sizable renovation. The change of pace is just as well, it turns out, as NSCA has increasingly been reaching out to consultants, architects, and design professionals in recent years, and Dallas itself has become a growing center for architects and the expanding building sciences industry.
Wilson explains, “Just as L.A. and Orlando are becoming known as entertainment technology capitols, Dallas is becoming known as the building technology center, so it’s very appropriate for us to be there.”
For now, there’s the rest of this year’s convention to take in, from the exhibitors to educational offerings to laidback events like tonight’s concert by the all-industry all-star band, Drunk Unkles, open to all NSCA attendees at the nearby Howl at the Moon.
